Brenda Graham writes interestingly:

“I am looking into the marriage of Richardson Ferrand and Christiana.  I think that a mistake was made at Topcliffe church with her surname, inadvertently changing it from Stabler into Stubler.  If you think about it Richardson most likely had a north country accent from Teeside and saying Stabler could very well sound like Stubler.  I have obtained a picture of the grave stone of Edward Ferrand, son of Richardson and Christiana. Edward's daughter is also buried with Edward and Isabella his wife and it
clearly is carved in large letters as Chistiana Stabler.  I have also looked at her marriage to both her first and second husband and again it records her name as Christiana Stabler Ferrand in the first marriage to Brass and the second to Bellerby.  Christiana Stabler (wife of Richardson)was born in 1755 and baptised at All Saints Pavement York.  It appears her family always lived in that area of York, and the druggist which Richardson was apprenticed to also had his business nearby.  Her father was Redman Stabler and she was one of 13 children.  The Stablers and Redmans were well respected in York, Edward Stabler was Lord Mayor of York in 1779 and William Stabler and James Redman were Sheriffs.  Why the couple married at Topcliffe is a mystery, though Richardson did leave his apprenticeship two years early.  The list of Stabler marriages in York Minster records them as Richardson Ferrand and Christiana Stabler, York Minster must have records of all outlying parishes.”
