Fought parliamentarians with Chas II - and lost
Burke gives him a younger son, William, who was principal of Edinburgh university and d. in 1732, corroborated by George Robertson in his History of Renfrew, p. 297.
His and Jane’s second son, Rev William, has an article in IDNB and was the father of a large family, two of whom have ODNB articles as well. In this article it is said that Gavin himself lived from 1614 to 1675.

George Robertson in his History of Renfrew, p. 297, records that Gavin died in 1687.

George Hamilton, however in his “The House of Hamilton” recxords that he died before 11 Jan 1675.
He and his wife Jane had six children:

5. Margaret,
6. Jean.
