April 2015, TFPL: Brad Verity wrote with the following:
“The Alice Tunstall who was mother of Sir William Parr KG (1434-1483) was not a granddaughter of Richard Neville, 1st Earl of Salisbury (c.1398-1460). She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Tunstall of Thurland Castle (c.1362-1415) and his first wife Isabel Harrington. Sir Thomas Tunstall's second wife was Joan Mowbray (c.1363-1410, descended from Edward I).2)”
The problem was that I had taken what I thought was the correct descent from the printed copy of the 1564 Yorkshire Visitation. Unfortunately it had been scanned by The Archive CD Books Project and in pure black and white. On the other hand the
Archive.org scan was in greyscale. The problem with the Archive CD Books method is that vertical lines can lose out and, being slightly grey, were white from the black and white conversion. This meant that I got the descents plain wrong and completely missed that there was on page 328 an Alice, daughter of Sir Thomas and Izabell Haryngton who had married a Sir Thomas Parre Knight. So Brad, by much more complex means had obtained better documents and was completely right.
