Notes for Robert de Tosny Lord of Belvoir
Keats-Rohan: Probably a collateral of his contempoaries Ralph and Roger (Tosni).
And probably the son of Robert de Tosny, founder of Conches.

Peter Stewart has produced a magisterial study of “Origin and early generations of the Tosny family”, to be found at <http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bobwolfe/gentxt/Ori...f>.  In this he delineates Robert’s ancestry, siblings and cousins over four generations before Robert.  I think the bare details need to be added to this database as they are as good as can be.
_____________

TFPL, Mar 2020: I have finally got round to Peter Stewarts’ very fine account of this very early family.  Of course it is speculative, of course there are reservations within his account but it remains a superb collection of all the documents known of this early family and a good analysis of what they imply.  One thing that is not in doubt is that I am hopelessly unqualified to respond: I do not have the documents, I cannot read them, I do not know the languages used and I do not know the customs and practices of those times.

That said, here is Robert’s podition in the family:

1. He is great-great-grandson of Hugo the earliest identifiable male line ancestor.

2. His ancestry is, with the generation numbering in pp. 1 and 2 of Peter’s account:

HUGO of Cavalcamp, Calvacamp or Calvacaput, son or grandson of MALAHULCIUS (uncle of ROLLO).

3. Of the above five generations for only for the last is the wife and mother of the next known.

The account then continues with 80 pages of information and notes on the table in the first wo pages.
