Notes for Hawise FitzAlan
She had from her brother James Stewart (or FitzAlan) two thirds of the town of Old Roxburgh, which property then descended to the Lovels. This is the primary evidence that she was the mother of Muriel.
However McMichael in this Soulis article in Trans Dumf & Gall Hist & Arch Soc, vol XXVI of 3rd series, p. 176, find evidence that Margeret widow of Hugh de Peresby was John’s wife. Margaret was a co-heir of Merleswain, lord of Andross and Innergelly, Fife. Possibly Margaret was John’s second wife???
