| Notes for Elizabeth de Neville | ||||||||||||||
| John Ravilous, 14 Nov 2006 and 2 Dec 2006, has suggested that she is dau. of Robert de Nevill of Scotton and Angharad ferch Gruffyd. The Dugdale Baronage additions in Coll. Top. et Gen., vol 5, p. 231 says she was a Nevill of Scotton but gives no evidence. I then wondered if there might be a marriage dispensation for her son Ralph who m. an Audley, from whom Elizabeth would also descend. If this was to be found, it would provide very good evidence of Elizabeth’s parentage. If she is a Neville, there is a long line of Nevilles of Scotton in CP IX, 476-8, adding greatly to the score of ancestors. _____________________________________________________ In fact John Ravilous then pointed out that the Greystoke article in CP has a footnote (f) summarising the request in the name of the king to the pope that Ralph Greystoke shold marry Alice Audley even though they were related (precisely) in the 3rd and 4th degrees. CP’s reference is Roman Roll, 11-14 Edw. II, m. 14 d. I am now going to use this as the justification for accepting the assertions from Coll. Top. et Gen. V, 315 that she was the daughter of Robert (they say Ralph, but it is Scotton that is significant) Neville of Scotton and fill in her ancestry. _______________________________________________________ | ||||||||||||||
