Notes for Isabella Cooke
In Burke’s Commoners she is ‘Miss Younge’ but in Thomas Harwood’s “Alumni Etonienses”, p. 96, she is Arabella, a sister of William Cooke who married Henry’s sister Catherine.  I can find no information to resolve this.

However in the book “The Ways of Yesterday” by H M W Stirling, pub by Thornton Butterworth, London in 1930, there is an account of the Cookes who had the rectorship of Denham, Bucks possibly at the hand of the Ways.  Anyhow there is a description on pages 54 to 56 of Wm Cooke’s family and the intermarriages with the Sleeches and which confirms the marriage of Henry Sleech to an Isabella Cooke, younger sister of Rev Wm Cooke, the marriage occurring nine years after that of William, thus in 1754.

The Gentleman’s Magazine, vol 55 for , p. 238 in the obituary for Henry, also says he married “Miss Bell Cooke, sister of the present Provost of King’s”.

May 2012: So I have corrected the wife of Henry Sleech.
