CP says he is son of Robert the 1st baron. He cannot possibly be this as 1st baron died in 1317. No way could he have been sheriff at the age of 86!
DNB has him as 3rd son of Robert the 4th baron. Makes more sense, even though he was marrying his grandmother's husband's child by his paternal grandfather's first (or second) wife.
