Notes for Joan Everingham
m. (1) Sir Wm. Ellis of Kiddal. Yorks, (2) Sir Robert Waterton.

She was a co-heir, with her sister Katherine, of the Everingham barony.  The interesting question is what happened to that representation on her death.

Her son by her first marriage, Robert Elys, survived his mother and was declared her heir at her death.  Being her eldest this was probably correct.  She may have had a younger son, by her second marriage, though this has yet to be established.

Her son Robert Elys later died without issue, and his heirs must have been his sisters of whom only Joan had issue, thus becoming his sole heir.

Seen in the light of the above, Joan Everingham's children by her second marriage do not get a look in as her heirs as they were not heirs to their half brother Robert Elys.  Or were half-siblings treated equally as heirs of a sibling?
________________________________________________________

According to Foster's edition of the Yorks vis't of 1584/5, Everingham descended as follows:

Jane Everingham = Sir William Ellis
|
Agnes Ellis, heir = Sir John Poucher
|
Joan Poucher, heir = John Sothill
|
Sir John Sothill = N.N., dau. of Sir Wm. Inglby
|
Barbara Sothill, heir = Sir Marmaduke Constable who d. 7 Sep 1545

Certainly Everingham ended up in the hands of these Constables.  It all looks plausible enough to include but as yet some of this descent is a bit too remote from any contemporary documentations that I have come across.
