| Notes for John Barcroft | ||||||
| JAB in his Fragments had said he was of Rossendale, Lanarks, but the 1881 census gives a very different story. In 1881 he was living at Booth Fold, Newchurch, Lancs with his wife, two daus, two granddaus and one servant. Too many John Barcrofts on FreeBMD to begin to guess his death date. _______________________________________________ There are two marriages of John Barcrofts between 1840, when he was 16 and 1848 which is the year before his daughter’s birth: Marriages Sep 1845 Barcroft John Bury 21 201 Marriages Mar 1848 BARCROFT John Haslingden 21 311 Of these I guess that the second is more likely as Newchurch is in the Haslingden district. The second marriage consisted of two from the following eight: BARCROFT John Haslingden 21 311 CHADWICK Edward Haslingden 21 311 Macauley Owen Haslingden 21 311 Newton Mary Haslingden 21 311 ROTHWELL Mary Haslingden 21 311 SIMPSON Grace Marshall Haslingden 21 311 Tattersall Ann Haslingden 21 311 WHITAKER James Haslingden 21 311 My guess is that this John Barcroft m. Ann Tattersall. ____________________________________________________ | ||||||
