Notes for Mary Alice Barcroft
JAB in his Fragments did not know her forenames, which are to be found on their marriage on FreeBMD.

Her death record in the Lancs area is not to be found on FreeBMD up to 1910, neither as Busfield nor a Busfeild.  FreeBMD has a Mary A Busfield who d. in Q1 of 1911 in Leeds, but this is not Lancs, so is probably not her.

June, 2007, TFPL: For her birth, there is a Mary Alice Barcroft born at Haslingden in Q2 of 1844 and another in Q2 of 1848 and a third in Q1 of 1849.  Possibly the first d. young and the second was given the same name?  Let’s say she was born around 1846 so she would have been around 60 in 1908 and thus unlikely to have her death on FreeBMD in the current records of before 1910.

The 1881 census is most informative.  After the death of her hubby, she had moved back to her parents house, was aged 32 and born in Newchurch Lancs and living there with her two daughters:
Margaret Ann Busfield, aged 5, born in Newchurch, Lancs
Kate Eable(?) Busfield, aged 3, born in Newchurch, Lancs

The census firms up on Mary Alice’s birth which is the third of the above three records.
