Notes for Richard de Chetwynd
"Ob 5 H 5" =1417 - in the Essex visitation, looks rubbish!
From p. 85 of the Wm Salt Soc's publication
of the 1614 and 1663/4 visitations of Staffs:
IN 1614 AND 1663-64. 85
The following note by Gregory King, at the end of the Visitation
book, no doubt refers to some pedigree of the Barrington family.
For according to a pedigree of Harrington in the Visitation of
Essex, 1558 (Harl. Soc. edit., p. 22), a Nicholas Barrington
is stated to have married Agnes or Eleanor, d. and h. of William
Chetwynd, son of Richard de Chetwynd, who died 5 H. 5.--"
Chetwynd, fo. 99. Agnes, fllia et haeres Gulielmi Chetwynd,
mil., uxor Nic. Barrington, circa temp. Edw. I., soror Philippi,
Adami, et Johannis, et WilTi Chetwynd, milit. Vide E 7, f. 86.
Qu.: If it be not a mistake to call her dau. and heir; and how
could she be sister to these four knights and dau. of a William?
Three of the four being mentioned in the pedigree of Chetwynd,
and made the sons of John. G. K."
The initial response to his question is that Nic Barrington of temp
Edw I is definitely NOT in the same century as the supposed death
of Richard Chetwynd in 5 H 5. There is a serious bit of confusion
here.
