Notes for Agatha
TFPL, Aug 2011: Agatha’s parentage has been the source of considerable speculation and over the past year two major reviews of all the known evidence have appeared:

(1) By Stuart Baldwin <http://sbaldw.home.mindspring.com/hproject/prov/agath000.htm>; in which he firmly concludes that the evidence is just not available for any firm conclusion.

(2) By Armin Wolf (FMG JournalL, Vol 3, No 6, PP. 503-523) in which he concludes fairly confidently that her father was Liudolf of Frunswick, brother of Emperor Heinrich III, and her mother was Gertrud of Frisia.

What is evident to me is that the only surviving documents about her ancestry are British, yet she was clearly born, married and had her children in mid- or eastern-Europe.  So these documents show nothing about events in her life that were witnessed by people who knew her before she got to Scotland.  My conclusion is to agree with Stuart Baldwin that we simple do not know who her parents were and to live in hope that one day some ancient mid-European document will be found that will resolve the matter.

(So I have deleted that Bruno Bishop of Augsburg was her father.)
