Notes for Jean Gilmour
On the Hare tree of the Trotters as well as in RCLPL.
Feb 2006, TFPL: It is now looking extremely unlikely that Jean was a daughter of Margaret Cockburn. Further it is looking very unlikely that John Gilmour even married a Margaret Cockburn. In fact John Gilmour’s amd Margaret Murray’s son Alexander did marry Margaret Cockburn, dau ot Sir William Cockburn.
So currently it is not known which of his four wives was actually the mother of Jean Gilmour.

Mar, 2006, TFPL: Bingo! First her baptism is in the LDS’ British Vital records and gives John Gilmour and Margaret Cockburn as her parents. Second Diane Baptie has obtained a print of the film of the OPR which reads:
“S[i]r John Gilmour of Craigmiller president of the Colledge of Justice Dame Margaret Cockburn A D[aughter] N[amed] Jean. Witnesses S[i]r Archibald Cockburn of Langtoun S[i]r John Nicolson of Lasswade S[i]r John Scougall one of the Senators of the Colledge of Justice.” Dated 17th August 1662.
‘Nuff said.
