Notes for Ida
Apparently the Bradenstoke Cartulary has some deeds that include a reference to Countess Ida, mother of William Longspee.
In the past this lady was thought to be "Fair Rosamund" (Clifford) but this has been discredited for at least two centuries. College of Arms thought it was Rosamund in 1926 odd, but then they were always a bit behind the times...

On 3rd July 2002, Ray Phair produced evidence on the soc.genealogy.medieval newsgroup that Countess Ida, wife of Roger Bigod earl of Norfolk was William's mother; this was from a charter that referred to a young William Bigod as the brother of William Longspee and one in which William Longspee named the countess Ida as his mother. Brilliant!
