________________

TFPL, Jan 2021: I wonder if the lunacy declaration above was in any was the consequence of his being totally orphaned by the age of 2.  Who would have looked after him after that?  Who would have taken responsibility for his overall care?  Possibly his father’s will of c.1719 would have dealt with that issue, though at that time his wife, the mother of this Thomas was still alive.  Did she write a will?

After the death of both his grandfather and both his parents in short order, the following adult relations were around:

1. His great-uncle Sir Littleton Powys, albeit 73 when this Thomas was orphaned.

2, No aunts or uncles on his father’s side.

3. No uncle on his mother’s side but there was, presumably an aunt as Catherine was said to be a co-heir.

4. Elisabeth Powys, née Meadowe, second wife of Sir Thomas lived only to 1728.

5. His two great aunts Jane and Anne lived to 1782 and 1747 respectively.

6. His great uncle Anbrose lived to 1753.

All very remote in age to his childhood.  I’m not surprised he went mad at some stage.
