Here's some super research done by Greg Hay in April 2003, which should be followed up in due course when some certificates arrive.

This could be more on your line of inquiry, some of which you should be able
to verify with the ordered certificate/s, perhaps? -

Not sure of the following marriage - as you can see the birth index in NSW
does not show the mother's maiden name. In Queensland and most other States
it does, but does give the registration district whereas in Queensland it
does not.

This is the only James GREER married to a Sophia in NSW and about the time
of the first birth in 1850:

Surname: GREER
Given Name/s: James
Sex: Male
Index Year: 1849
Spouse surname: HENRY

Spouse sex: Female
Denomination: Wesleyan Methodist
Parish: Co. Argyle; Goulurn; Gunning; Yass

Possible birth for Ada L GREER's husband Thomas BUCKLAND...same church,
location for birth of Ada's sister, Alice...But it can be so difficult with
the NSW indexes, so without certificates or other supporting information one
cannot be certain.

I'll send this off now, but the usual caution applies in respect to the
weight value of the information with other supporting evidence.

Jul 2006, TFPL: I’ve now got hold of his death certificate which gives a welcome and extensive amount of information. It states where he died and what his usual residence was (see elsewhere), his parents names, his wife’s name, that he had no issue, the informant, who was his sister Marion E Buckland of The Mill Cottage, Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, England, the cause of death which was “Cerebro Vascular Accident”, lasting 12 hours, and the date and place of cremation.

This completes the trio of birth, marriage and death certificates.

On 16th April 2009, John Hamblin produced this from his researches into people from the one school:

Buckland, Druce Hervey Lieutenant

6th (Reserve) Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps attached to the 1st Battalion

He was born on the 20th of August 1896 at "Undercliff", New South Head Road, Double Bay, Woollahra, New South Wales in Australia the younger son of Thomas Buckland of Kengie, Ascot, Berkshire and Ada Lucy Buckland of Sydney Australia.

He left Hazelwood School at Christmas 1909 for Eton College where he was in A.E. Conybeare's house leaving in 1914 and matriculating for Trinity College Cambridge, although he chose to defer his place due to the outbreak of war.

He was gazetted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps on the 30th of December 1914, was attached to the 1st Battalion and went to France on the 16th of October 1915. He joined his battalion at the front on the 19th of October and was invalided back the UK through illness on the 30th of August 1916 following a period in flooded trenches at Hebuterne; he was mentioned in despatches

After the war he took his place at Trinity College and played varsity tennis at Queen's Club in 1920.

He returned to Australia where he worked as a mining engineer

He was married at St Marylebone Registry Office in London on the 16th of August 1946 to Ursula Margot (nee Powys-Lybbe). They lived at Illaboo, Warrimo in New South Wales and had no children.

He died at Hornsby Hospital, Hornsby in New South Wales on the 21st of October 1963

The interesting thing in the above is that Druce’s father Thomas Buckland said he was a clerk and born in Sydney when his and Ada’s marriage was registered. Wierd!

In the 1911 census, there was no Druce Buckland or variants of that name who was born around 1896.

Four ship entries for him:

22 Mar 1944: British embarkation from Liverpool on Trojan Star. He was resident at 47 Berkeley Sq, London W1 and was a Naval Liaison Officer with the profession of Mining Engineer. He was aged 48 and going to Sydney, Australia for permanent residence.

23 Mar 1944: Departed for USA, arriving 10th April 1944, on the SS Trojan Star from Liverpool. He said he was an Engineer aged 47 and 8 months, born in Sydney, NSW, Australia, of British nationality and Australian race and was previously living in London.

26 Aug 1945 (prob) he arrived in Southampton from Sydney, Australia. He said he was permanently resident in England with an address in London (illegible).

21 Sep 1946: Departed Southampton for Sydney, Australie on the ship Strathmore. He was aged 50 and had been living at 27 Mulberry Close, Beaufort St, London SW3 and gave his profession as engineer. He was in Class A and was unaccompanied by a wife. He said he was last permanently resident in England.

The London Gazette has:

30 Dec 1914: 2 Lt in 6th Battalion K.R.R. Corps.

In the 1901 census he and his probable brother Adrian were living at a boarding house in Margate Kent. No sign of any parents. Both born in Australia.

In the 1911 census he and his brother Adrian were both at Eton and both born in Sydney, Australia.
