Introduction

My grandfather was an enthusiastic genealogist and heraldist. While he employed researchers who did painstaking searches of surviving documents, he did not operate that way himself, or at least not in the manner in which he presented his findings. So his surviving papers are almost useless, save to say that it may be worth seeing if we can find any documents to confirm them. And as such, they have of course been invaluable.

For Maria Churchill he left behind two documents, one wrong and the other with vital data missing:
