Guy Busfield's birth and his mother Emily's death

Remarkably this harrowing story has survived in the careful hands of the Ferrand family. The author was Johnson Atkinson Busfeild who included this in his master volumes of genealogical resources on the Ferrand and Busfeild families. His son and great grandson have had similar interests and preserved and added to these precious family records. A few years ago I was told of this record and now, 2010, I have been able to photograph and transcribe these pages.

The brief story is that in 1881 William and Emily Busfeild with their eight year old son Billy, went to Edinburgh for the pending birth of their third child. The birth went well, but two days later the mother was dead, stated to be by puerperal fever. A week after this her body was taken to Bingley by train where she was given a massive funeral. A little over three weeks later Guy was christened. The 67 year old J A Busfeild, Guy's grandfather, organised most of this as his son, Guy's father, was too heartbroken to do it. A little over a year later, the grandfather died. Eight and a half years after his birth Guy Busfeild had his name changed to Guy Ferrand when his father William inherited the Ferrand Estates.
